Spotlight 7 – Music Was My First Love, Big Little Theatre School, Pavilion.

A friend of mine, seeing BLTS for the first time at this 10th anniversary show, pronounced herself ‘gobsmacked’, and I’m sure she wasn’t alone in her sentiments.
This musical extravaganza is as good as it gets, with West End style lighting, sound, orchestra, directors, costumes and staging. Add to that over 160 super-talented and highly disciplined young people and you have the best in entertainment.

This year’s show marks the first time all the school’s Saturday companies have joined forces in a single production, each having its own sections but coming together in the opening and finale numbers.

From the youngest Footlights in Tarzan and Oliver & Limelights in Fame and The Roar of the Greasepaint to the Starlights in Calamity Jane, Aida and Anything Goes, the results were stunning, with entrances and exits executed in a flash, despite the vast numbers. And just when you thought it was impossible to top all that, along came the school’s crème de la crème, the Professional Development Programme students, with Guys & Dolls, Sunday in the Park With George, The Producers and more besides. And those wonderful finale numbers from Titanic and Copacabana were simply mind blowing.
