Review

Ticket To Ride, Zenith Theatre Company, St Aldhelm’s Hall, Branksome

FOLLOWERS of this company will know that their productions are always marked by high enthusiasm and innovation, and this revue of different forms of transport was no exception.

Almost every known song about planes, boats, cars, trains and bikes was featured, along with related poems and sketches, before we were whisked off into space for the finale.

Since a biker theme ran throughout the show, costumes were less colourful than usual, and were mainly black with a predominance of leather jackets. However, there was plenty of sparkle in the stage dressing and the girls’ glittery silver eyeshadow to compensate.

Several of the group have great voices, so the likes of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Uncoupled, Leader of the Pack and Bat out of Hell went down a treat – and the dancing was pretty effective too.

I did feel though that there was a certain lack of continuity. The use of backing tracks meant that some numbers finished very abruptly, leaving the company to exit the stage in silence, and there were often long pauses before the next number began.
But travel does tend to be a slow process these days, and I guess they were waiting for their connections.
