Review
Aladdin, Castle Players, The Village Hall, Lytchett Matravers
THIS was a tremendously engaging show, directed by Frank Holden (who also plays PC Wun). It is slickly performed with irrepressible energy by a cast blessed with good singing voices and excellent comic timing. There is also a dry wit running through the show with lots of local jokes. The audience joined in with great gusto with boos, and cries of ‘It’s behind you’ and ‘Oh no it’s not’.
Aladdin (Louise Isaacs) and Princess Jasmine (Jess Hedges) looked good together and their voices complemented each other.
Dave Clements as Window Twankey worked his socks off as did Pete Griffiths as Wishee Washee. The dance sequences were handled with professionalism and the villagers were completely believable.
Sets were fast-changing and the lighting was used to great effect. The whole cast, which also included Patrick D’Ardenne, Tess Hutton, Phil McMullen, Ann Lloyd, Jo Puttick and Nikki Brown, worked well together as a slick team as did the backstage crew with many scene changes that were full of impact.
For me the star of the show was Harry Susser (Abanazar) he was quite brilliant in the part – his facial expressions were endless and the whole audience loved to hate him.
This was a show full of FUN FUN FUN.
