Lights, Camera, Action!, BBLOC, The Hub, Verwood

IT’S a brave company that takes a step into the unknown these days, but BBLOC did just that with this concert by allowing two of its younger members, Dale Waterworth and Shelley Gould, to produce, choreograph and direct this celebration of movie music. The cheers and applause that rang from the rafters at the final curtain were all the evidence needed that the step had paid off handsomely.

Many of the usual faces were missing, but the 16 who were on stage – sadly this included just 4 men – more than made up for any lack of bodies, and the sheer exuberance was a joy to see.

From Rodgers and Hammerstein, Gypsy, Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany’s & 007 through Dreamgirls, Dirty Dancing, A Chorus Line, Hairspray and more, BBLOC’s talent shone through and it was clear that the directors have what it takes to bring out the best in their cast.

Whilst I didn’t find the use of backing tracks rather than live musicians a drawback, the too-long dark pauses as we waited for the next track to start did spoil the effect a little, but hopefully this will be remedied before the next concerts at the Regent Centre & Barrington Theatre in July.
