As the 50th anniversary of Edith Piaf’s death approaches, Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts welcomes Piaf ~ The Songs on March 2nd, with Eve Loiseau singing her songs in this beautiful and charismatic production celebrating the music of the legendary French chanteuse.
Edith Piaf has become synonymous with French Cabaret of the 1940’s and 50’s and remains France’s most popular singer. Piaf’s life was the stuff of legend, from her dramatic rise from Paris street urchin to star of international renown. Her life, however, was anything but ‘La vie en rose'. Towards the end of her life, ravaged by pain and injury, Piaf turned to drugs to find comfort and solace, never able to believe that she was indeed loved by countless thousands of fans the world over.
Whilst Piaf is inimitable, singer Eve Loiseau's lustrous tone and exquisite French accent perfectly captures the essence of the ‘Little Sparrow’. As well as a dramatic narrative thread, the show includes all of Piaf's most famous and most loved songs, including ‘La vie en rose’, ‘Sous le ciel de Paris’, ‘Bal dans ma rue’, ‘Autumn Leaves’, ‘Padam Padam’, ‘C’est merveilleux’, ‘L’accordéoniste’ and ‘Non je ne regrette rien’.
Since her debut at the Royal Festival Hall in Feb 2002, Eve Loiseau has given recitals in England, New York & France and has featured on BBC R3, WNYC Radio, PMW Music and the BBC production, The Roman Mysteries. Eve performs with Canteve Vocale and the baroque ensemble, Duo Dolcetini, along with Fiona Barrow, (violin) and Edward Jay (accordion).
