LOCATIONS BEING SOUGHT FOR SITCOM

LOCAL writer Paul Tumilty is about to embark on filming the first episode of a 5-part TV sitcom and is urgently looking for a couple of locations in the Bournemouth area. For a 1970s club scene in the first episode a pole dancing club or similar is required, preferably with ‘booth type’ seating, and two office locations are also needed, one in a police station and the other a solicitor’s office. If, perhaps through your line of work (!), you are able to suggest anywhere that might be suitable, please contact Paul at castlecat7@gmail.com or on 01202 258154 or 07952 296701.

SHAKESPEARE AND DRAMA WORKSHOPS

IF you fancy having a go at Shakespeare but have always been frightened of it then why not try the series of workshops that Bournemouth Players will be running weekly from mid September to the end of November? Everyone is welcome, whether you have been acting for years, are just starting out, or just want to try some Shakespeare. The workshops will cover a range of things including acting, understanding text, voice projection and performance, and there will be a theatrical make-up demonstration at one of the workshops. The idea will be to study scenes and text from Shakespeare, including The Merry Wives of Windsor, plus works by other writers, working towards a performance in front of an audience.

There will be a small charge per workshop, which will be run by the Players’ director and chairman, Kevin Dicker. If you are interested please contact the Players either by e-mail at bsp75@btinternet.com or write to 33 Tincleton Gardens, Bournemouth, BH9 3RD.

BBLOC GARDEN PARTY

THE Producers was one of the most successful shows in BBLOC’s history, receiving a terrifically enthusiastic response from audiences. Sadly though it was not a commercial success and made a substantial loss. The company is therefore undertaking a number of events during the next few months in an effort to raise much-needed funds to enable them to go ahead with future productions.
One of the events will be a Garden Party at 11 Donnelly Road, Tuckton, Southbourne, on Saturday July 24 from 11am to 4pm. The entrance fee of £3 will entitle visitors to a cup of tea or coffee and a cake or cream scone, and there will be a number of stalls selling books, cakes etc.
If you are free on that day why not go along? BBLOC will be delighted to see you.

PIRATES AND PINAFORE INVADE ‘HMS WARRIOR’ in PORTSMOUTH

As part of the Victorian themed events to celebrate the launch of HMS Warrior in 1860 Bournemouth Gilbert & Sullivan Society has been invited to perform excerpts from The Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore plus a selection of sea shanties on Sunday, 18th July. The three performances will be open to the general public as they tour The Warrior and are timed for 12.30, 1.45 and 3.00pm. Penny Crichton-Seager is producing the performance and has scripted some amusing dialogue between Sir Joseph Porter from HMS Pinafore with the Pirate King from The Pirates of Penzance – largely based on the Johnny Depp characterisation.

The entrance fee to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard includes not only HMS Warrior but also HMS Victory – Lord Nelson’s flagship. Well worth a visit and a musical treat at the same time!

STAGE MANAGER NEEDED

DRAMATIC Productions is urgently seeking a stage manager for its production of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, to be performed at Lighthouse Studio, Poole, from April 20-24, including two matinees. There is no requirement for technical ability, mainly just being ‘on the book’ for rehearsals helping to set up the stage for the performances. This is an unpaid job but promises to be great fun. If you are interested contact Julia Savill at howard43@madasafish.com or on 07912 348584.

HIGHCLIFFE REVUE

THE Revue Company of Highcliffe Community Association intend to provide a little Easter Razzmatazz in their next show. As ever, the performance will cover a wide range in both era and style, with an array of colourful costumes to set the scene.

Viv Lucas, who is directing the show, promises to provide ‘a touch of elegance, and all things nice, a little raunchiness to add some spice.’ Regular attendees get no prizes for guessing who is cast as what, hence Jane Sykes and Lucy Kelleher – ‘if the fishnets fit…’. The cast also includes Doreen Burton, Cora Hardy, Jack Keeler, Peter Kent and Brian Morgan.

The show will take place at Greystones House, Waterford Lane, Highcliffe, on Saturday April 24 at 7pm, and Sunday 25 at 3pm. Tickets are £6, including wine and nibbles during the interval on Saturday and a cream tea on Sunday. Excellent value by any standards! The box office is now open at Greystones, or call Jane on 01202 382310.

LOOKING FOR MEN!

Award winning amateur musical theatre society Poole and Parkstone Productions needs you! The society is running dangerously short of a leading man and other male cast members for our May musical Anything Goes. We are looking for new members to join the Society and be in what promises to be a fantastic production.

It’s a sad sign of the times that amateur theatre is struggling, with both audience figures and membership but we are committed to giving talented local people the chance to shine and do something they love. Anything Goes is shaping up to be an amazing show, more than capable of upholding P&P’s well deserved reputation for professionalism and outstanding talent, don’t miss your chance to be part of the P&P family.

We are hoping to recruit general chorus members who can sing and ‘move’, male chorus who can dance and the lead role of Billy Crocker, a man in his 20’s – 30’s who is a good ‘all rounder’ in singing acting and dancing.

Auditions will be held at St Marys Hall opposite Poole Hospital on this Thursday 21st January at 7.30pm so please get in touch as soon as possible if you are interested. For an audition pack and more information please call Clare Albanozzo on 07956996656.

                DRAMATIC PRODUCTIONS NEED KEYBOARD PLAYER

Wanted urgently: a reliable keyboard player who may be available and wanting to add to their profile/musically direct, perhaps a student, etc?

The production is 'Stocking Fillers' and is in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The keyboard player Dramatic Productions were using is now unable to do it and they are hoping to find someone to replace him instead of using a backing track. He was doing it voluntarily which, together with the time of year, makes it more difficult as they hadn’t budgeted to pay someone. The music/songs in the show are Christmas themed and familiar to most people.

Dramatic Productions are rehearsing at the Lighthouse (second floor foyer) 8th December from 6.30 pm, Sat 12 Dec in St John’s hall, Parkstone, 1pm to 5pm and then have the Studio in the Lighthouse from 10am to 10pm on 14 and 15 Dec and 10am to 5pm on 16 Dec.

If anyone can help out, it would be preferable if they could slot in some times to attend most rehearsals. Sasha Paul is Dramatic Productions Artistic Director and they can contact her on 07957 480 769 for more information and to meet up.

DE LA DIVAS AT DE LA SALLE

Due to overwhelming public demand, Chrissy Wickham (Director and Choreographer) and Marcus Marriott (Musical Director) have happily agreed to stage, 'TIVOLI 3' on November 3 & 4 at 7.30pm - only this time the show is at the De La Salle Theatre, St. Peter's School, St. Catherine's Rd Southbourne.

There is an all-singing, all-dancing cast, including Chris Piper and Nick Hayes (both from this area) and West End star, Jodie Jacobs (Scaramouch in We Will Rock You). As well as the best from current West End shows, there will be tributes to Queen, The Beatles and Michael Jackson.

Anyone who remembers the previous two shows will recall the outstanding performances from the cast, the exhilarating and sexy dance routines and the electrifying atmosphere.

This will be without doubt one of the very best nights you will ever spend in a theatre, and if you call the box office on 01202 499199 and quote ‘dancers’, you can buy tickets at the special price of £10, which is a saving of £5 on the advertised price.

OPEN AUDITIONS FOR NEXT FERNDOWN DRAMA GROUP PLAY

FERNDOWN Drama Group have announced that there will be open auditions for their next play, Norman Robbins’ Prescription For Murder. This modern thriller, to be directed by Paul Marcus, will take place at the Barrington Theatre in February, and there will be a reading at the Barrington Centre on 26th October, with auditions on 28th. Both will take place at 7.45pm, and if you are interested then just turn up or call Paul for further details on 01202 872754.

The cast is 3 men, aged around 40, 50 & 60, and 4 women, 3 aged 30-40s, and 1 in her 60s. The plot is as follows: in a quiet village, suspicion falls on the local doctor Richard Forth after his third wife succumbs to a mysterious illness. With a rustic setting straight out of Midsomer Murders and an ingenious plot worthy of Agatha Christie, the play also has a sting in the tail that is guaranteed to shock.
